ESE (Early Streamer Emission) based lightning protection air terminals are a modern and effective approach to lightning protection systems. These air terminals are designed to intercept lightning strikes by emitting a streamer that extends towards the approaching lightning, thereby facilitating the initiation of the lightning strike earlier and at a greater distance from the protected structure. This early initiation helps in creating a preferred path for the lightning current to safely dissipate into the ground, thus protecting the structure from damage.
